[REVIEW] L.A. Noire [X360, Ps3, PC]

[Story]
You are Cole Phelps, a World War 2 veteran who, after the war, became a police officer at the L.A.P.D.
While you are getting promoted and transfered to new departments, you will get to see flashbacks from his time as a soldier.
This keeps the story at a solid pace.
Cole inspecting a clue found at the crime scene

[Graphics]
The graphics are the star of show here.
Not the necessarily the textures, but the faces and character models.
Rockstar used a new facial recognition technique which made the faces very realistic.
You can really see the characters' faces change emotions and the actors who did the faces are easy to recognise.

[Sound]
The voice acting is extremely well done.
This doesn't make dialogues a chore.
But then again, this game isn't all about action, but mainly about the dialogue.

[Gameplay]
Gameplay is of course very important in any game.
and besides the great graphics and terrific sound, Rockstar didn't forget about the gameplay.
The gameplay is mainly searching for clues at crime scenes, and using the evidence you found while searching against the suspects.
You get alot of variety in your 'cases' since you get transfered from 'Traffic' to 'Murder' to 'Vice' etc.
Cole receiving news on an autopsy report.
You also regularly get calls from the office informing you about a crime going on somewhere, you can ignore the calls, or check the hassle.

[Verdict]
This game nails it all!
You got the great graphics and faces, the teriffic sound terrific, and the fun gameplay.
The only real downside is the fact that there is not really any challenge to it
Overall a great game,if you do not expect a gta IV like game, and the free roam mode makes you come back for more even after you've finished the game!

Pros
+ Great Graphics
+ Terrific Sound and Voice acting
+ Fun gameplay
+ Varied and fun side-missions

Cons
- No challenge

[Rating]
9/10

[REVIEW] Amnesia : The Dark Descent [PC]

[Story]
In amnesia, you are daniel, a guy that woke up in a creepy and spooky castle. But, as the story unfolds, with a lot of flashbacks, you figure out what you are doing in that creepy mansion.

[Graphics]
In my opinion, this game’s graphics are what make it so scary. the castle feels real, and all locations are nicely put where they are at. The monsters look really good and scary, and all the animations are great.

[Sound]
In a scary game, sound is very important, and, luckily, amnesia has great sound effects. From monsters screaming at you, to simple things like breaking objects, amnesia’s sound delivers it all!

[Gameplay]
"An example of the "Insanity effects"
Like penumbra, amnesia is mainly a stealth game, you have no weapons, and there’s no way of killing any of the monsters that try to kill you. So you must hide in the shadows and avoid the monsters by all means. This gameplay is a nice change from all shooters out there and I love it. You can grab almost every object in the world, in order to create distractions or even open up a path.
Another very important part of this game is puzzle solving. There are a LOT of puzzles in this game, they are not bad, but some of them could have had some more explanation to them.
You have a sanity and health meter, both are extremely important in this game. The health meter, controls your life, and can be restored by taking some 'laudanum', which is basically a health potion. Sanity, on the other hand, is much more complex, when you face a monster for example, you sanity decreases, this will cause you to be seen if you keep looking. Sanity  can only be restored by making progress or by staying in the light, and that’s where the lantern and the tinderboxes come in. The lantern is a limited source though, which will make you have to choose when you use it. All this survival-horror gameplay is great, and I love it!

[Extras]
For those of you who are afraid that this game may lack of replay value, there's no need to be, there’s a custom story option, where you can create, play and share your own scary games, this adds great replay value, and the level creator is simple to work with.

[Verdict]
I’ve been playing this game for six months, and I have to admit that this one of the best horror games I have ever played. I only think that the ending, and some graphical issues are a letdown.

Pros:
+ Simple story:
+ Awesome atmosphere;
+ Great sound;
+ Nice gameplay;
+ Survival elements;
+ Sanity meter
+Custom Stories

Cons:
- Graphical gliches;
- Lack of explanation;
- Endings;

[Rating
8.5/10

[REVIEW] Kingdoms of Amalur : Reckoning [X360, Ps3, PC]

Posted by Internal Friction On 4/03/2012 05:57:00 AM 0 comments

[Story]
You wake up on a pile of corpses, without any idea who you are or where you are.
after you leave you will come across a 'fateweaver', these people can read your fate.
As reads your fate, he claims that you don't have one.
and so you are 'The Fateless One'
And the adventure begins

[Graphics]
The graphics look pretty sharp, although we have seen better, for example in Skyrim.
They are very colorful, which is something you don't very often see in a 'serious' RPG.
But you'll often be stunned by the beautiful locations you stumble across.

[Sound]
The sound in this game seems very nicely done, the only complaint is the lip-synching, which is just painfully bad.

[Gameplay]
This is the star of the show.
The gameplay borrowed some elements from God of War ; the hack 'n' slash combat for one.
Since this is an RPG, you level-up frequently, and after each gained level, you can assign skill points.
Stealth has never been this fun
But unlike many other RPG games, you don't have a certain 'class', so you aren't bound to being a warrior, a mage or a hunter.
You can experiment with the 3 classes as much as you want, and create new subclasses, like the Paladin; which is a mix between Might and Sorcery.
Oh, and did i mention you can have your own, upgradable houses?
Yes, it's as awesome as you'd expect.

[Verdict]
This Action-RPG by 'Big Huge Games' has left me amazed for some time.
But this is a game that you either hate or love, there is almost no 'in-between' here.
Definitely an excelent break from skyrim

Pros
+ Fun Gameplay
+ Good Graphics
+ alot of things to do
+ massive world
+ experimenting in the class system

Cons
- Story isn't too good
- Lip-Synching is just too painful to watch

[Rating]

8/10
